Frequently Asked Questions

What is the AMS Act?

In 2022, voters passed the Arts and Music in Schools Act (AMS Act), requiring California to establish an ongoing program supporting arts instruction in schools. While some schools have started to use AMS Act funds,  others have reported implementation challenges and a shortage of qualified arts educators.

Who is eligible, and how do I apply for funding?

AEAF does not have an open application process. Grants are made by invitation and are closely aligned with the Fund’s strategic priorities. We work directly with organizations whose efforts support VAPA workforce development and AMS Act implementation.

Who is helping operate the Arts Ed Accelerator Fund?

The New Venture Fund (NVF) is a 501(c)(3) public charity that acts as the fiscal sponsor of the Arts Ed Accelerator Fund.

Who manages the Fund’s work?

A consultant team from ViaNova serves as AEAF’s backbone partner—facilitating strategy development, coordinating funder engagement, managing grantmaking processes, and supporting day-to-day operations.
